I’ve spent the last week preparing for my final Thesis presentation of the semester. It’s taking place next week, and I’ll be going first. So far, I’ve been working on the storyboard and the prototype.
Storyboard
Here are the sketches I’ve got for the storyboard so far. It follows the story of Joe as he uses the distraction app to guide him throughout his day at work. It covers the distraction meter monitoring his tasks and adjusting, and it also shows it locking out specific applications. It also demonstrates milestones and breaks, showing elements of a social network for your team of coworkers.
I showed the storyboards to my advisor, Paul, and he gave me a few pieces of advice:
- Think about the visualization of the day at work more carefully. Generally, up and to the right “seems” good and down and to the left seems bad.
- A number is a little bit opaque as a means of communicating a distraction level. Consider a meter or some other visualization instead.
Prototype
I’ve also been working on a prototype that I can demo. Here’s a video of it in action.
